Please help, trunk key install

Hey everyone, i ordered a trunk and glovebox key replacement set for my 69 coronet 500 last fall and am having an issue with the trunk key install. Can anyone explain how this goes together other than put it through the holes Im mostly wondering how the clip goes on the inside and if I’m missing anything for the trunk assembly. when I install it the tumbler turns with the key, and isn’t being held in place. Or it will work but the tumbler moves around. I attached pics of what I have. Am I just dumb? Thanks in advance

just did mine on my 70 Bee everything looks right. How about a pic of the lock hole. I believe there should be a notch thats what holds the lock from turning. Maybe you need to delete the gasket for it to catch.?
 
You should have received a few extensions for the trunk lock. Use the one that is close to the length you need, might be a bit long, no biggie. Insert the extension to the lock cylinder, put lock cylinder through the hole while guiding the extension into the slot of the trunk mechanism. Don’t forget the round gasket on the lock cylinder. Use the horse shoe clamp and press it into the grooves, basically the same as a brake line, and you done.
 
Thanks for the pics! That helps! But I never got any of the extensions with it and when I called about it CI basically gave me a run around. I don’t know if the horse shoe clamp is going on the right spot but the tumbler seems to spin in the tail panel with the clamp on. Maybe I’m not putting it in the right spot but it seems to make the key turn the whole unit rather than turning the inner parts to unlatch it. I’m wondering if maybe the tumbler is faulty.
 
it's the correct lock. Insert the long black piece in the trunk lock, push hard on the key lock cylinder and place the U clip like in my pictures I posted

The lock cylinders are keyed in the sheetmetal.....They can only go in one way......If the paint is to thick from restoring the car you may have to file out some in the slots......If too thick on the face keeping you from installing the clip then you may have to sand some paint away......

The clips are tight sometimes and a little grease on them goes a long way......

it is a tight fit,just take your time and look at it and try again. good luck.

From the pic above.....It is just a tight area to work with.....The report clips are made of cheap metal and like to spread apart when forced into position.....

IIRC I used a 1" round piece of wood on my X inside that area and forced the clip on...

When all else fails, but some hair around the hole & slide it right in.

I replaced mine over the winter, If I recall that “u” shaped retaining clip goes in pretty hard. Also, you should have received more than 1 “bar” extensions to fit application. I think I has 3 different ones..it worked really good. Fixed it!
 
Looks like 2 notches in the hole. There should be corresponding notches on the lock cylinder that line up with them and prevents the cylinder from turning. It should also make the cylinder installed so the key goes in correct side up.

I forgot to ask about that thank you for mentioning it, so the teeth of the key should be facing down toward the ground?
 
Nope, Mopars the teeth face up on every lock and ignition cylinder....
 
I found these pieces of PVC already glued together and discarded in the backyard and used them to push on that horseshoe clamp, which is a bitch because of the location, the tensile strength in the steel, and my poor weak wrists. I was just barely able to wiggle my "tool" in far enough to contact the clip, and even then it took a mighty strong push. ('72 Satellite)
