If you spend some time in North Eastern England, with the Geordies, you will appreciate the Scots. You can understand them.

The highest flying bird was recorded at 11,274 meters in altitude. The Ruppell's Griffon Vulture is adapted to high altitude flight and the extreme cold - extra hemoglobin in the blood helps extract oxygen at high altitude, and the birds can withstand -60F temperatures.

The exact altitude is known because that's where a bird was struck by an aircraft back in 1973. It's quite possible that those birds could fly a little higher.
