I want to improve braking with my 71 Charger that has drum brakes. I am thinking of installing a power boost now that I can also use with a disk conversion install next winter. Any input on if this is doable or doesn't make sense greatly appreciated.

If you have intentions of doing a front disc conversion in the future, you will need to buy a dual ballast booster. A single ballast unit will work fine with your drum brakes but will not provide enough boost for the discs. IMO, power brakes do not improve braking. They only do what they do with less foot pressure since the booster helps with that. Disc brakes are a big improvement over the drums however.

Gentlemen,
Most, if not all, Hemi cars and 6 barrel cars with the A34 super track pack, had power disc brakes. The booster used was a BENDIX Dual or tandem diaphragm booster. Drum brakes with power assist ued either a Bendix single diaphragm booster or possibly a Midland-Ross single diaphragm booster (with the large clamp band holding the booster halves together) . The master cylinder also differed as to what braking system was used; the disc brake systems had the master cylinder with the large rear reservoir. Also, some systems had the master cylinder fluid connections on the fender side, others had the master cylinder fluid connections on the engine side. I believe all had the brake system valve and the disc system also used the proportioning valve and smaller bore rear wheel cylinders. Hope this helps.....
