Put a new power steering box on my Cuda last year. Bought it at Napa, problem is the box works perfect turning left but it operates manual only turning right. I assume it's something in the valve but I really don't want to pull the box as I have a 512 with TTI headers so you have to lift the engine about 2 inches to be able to pull the header. Any ideas?

Try to loosen the centering plate, I thinks that's what it's called, and just barely tap towards the firewall or the radiator, can't remember which way for certain, and see if that helps.

Thanks guys. All good info. I will play with it. Sounds like the valve must only work in one direction. May try to pull it apart and see if something is keeping it from working properly.

Shop manual for my 70 RR says to check to see if the power steering box valve is not adjusted right is to raise the car up so the front wheels are off the ground but try to keep it level. With the wheels straight start the engine (in park/neutral of course) , rev the motor a bit and if the valve assembly is out of adjustment either way the front wheels will turn in one direction by themselves. If wheels are turning by themselves loosen the valve body bolts to 7 foot pounds and then you should be able to lightly tap the valve body to move in what ever direction you need to move it so the wheels will not turn by themselves.......then tighten up the twp bolts and the valve body "should" be adjusted right......that's what the shop manual says anyway.......

Note: I replaced the steering box on my 70 RR and I checked the adjustment using the above procedure and the wheels did not turn either way by themselves but I am having a problem that the steering system seems to have more power assist turning left then it does turning right....have not had a chance to investigate that yet..........
