I'm switching from manual steering to power steering. I installed the power steering box and pump when I put the pitman arm on, I cant turn it to line it up with the center link. Any thoughts?

Turn the steering wheel until the pitman arm lines up? Move the tires until the pitman arm lines up? I'm a little confused about what the problem is????

I can't get the box to turn at all. It seems like it's locked up.

Have you roughly centred the steering box yet? It may be at one end of travel already.

That's what I was trying to do but I can't get it to move in either direction.

Where did the box come from - a reliable source, or a Craigslist special?

Is the steering column connected, and is the lock disengaged?

Box is used, got it for free. Reliable I think...Steering column is out of the car. I've been trying to turn it under the car. I even tried a pipe wrench. Wouldn't budge.

Have you tried turning the box using the steering wheel?

Haven't put the column back in yet.

Might be why it was free... Some one might have tried to adjust the sector shaft, and went too far.

Cars have been totaled due to an adjusted steering box. Save yourself the headache and get one new or rebuilt.

Even with the drag link and pitman arm connected, you should be able to rotate the steering box by moving the front wheels with the car on jack-stands. Albeit with a decent amount of resistance.
If the box is frozen solid, it is probably toast. Someone replaced it or removed it for good reason.

Just throwing this out there, but if the box is full of oil and the lines are capped off, it won't turn.

I connected the drag link and tie rods...it broke loose and seems to be fine. I just didn't have enough leverage to free it up without those parts attached. Thanks all for the input.
