With only 3 1966-67 Belvedere Wagons in the UK, knowledge and parts are pretty hard to come by! I'm hoping some guys on ere may be able to help with a problem that is keeping mine off the road.

Having replaced the power steering pump and high pressure hose, I found that the connector that sits in the top of the steering box had been cross threaded at some point, so the new hose won't seal. I thought finding a replacement would be easy, but I think the thread types may be US specific, so no-one over here seems to be able to help. Can anyone tell me what the thread spec is for both ends of this connector? At least then i can go hunting:)

Picture of the High Pressure hose end, and then the ruined connector that screws into the top of the steering box with a copper crush washer.

Thanks for your help!

I just replaced a steering box. That piece I had to special order. I was able to get one thru Firm Feel online.
http://www.firmfeel.com You may have to call them.

I'm sure someone else may have more info too. Good luck!

Wow! Thanks for the quick replies.

I hunted high and low on Rock Auto, and couldn't see that. Must be my age..... It would still be great if anyone knows the thread specs for the fitting, not least of which because RockAuto want $35 to ship just the connector! They shipped my power steering pump for $20.

Thanks for all your help:)

You can also check ebay for this part number.
LARES 176 New
1/4" Pressure Fitting

Or go their website then click on where to buy. Maybe you can find a more reasonable price.

This is on ebay but not sure if its correct. https://www.ebay.com/itm/MOPAR-Powe...ash=item3cfe2b8c2d:g:EiMAAOSwyQtVmaU8&vxp=mtr

The bigger side of the fitting looks like an NTP size. Whether its a 1/2 inch or 3/4 I cant tell. I would bet 1/2 due to the hose side being 1/4 inch. Just a guess.

Not at all, sure but don't think they are NPT (National Pipe Tapered), straight pipe maybe. Good luck!

The hi pressure fitting on the steering box is a 3/8" SAE straight thread that has an O-ring under the copper crush washer on the box side . Yhe O-ring is the pressure seal; the vopper crush washer backs up the O-ring. The steering box has a recess to accommodate the O-ring. The copper washer insures the O-ring is compressed evenly. DO NOT USE THREAD DOPE OR TEFLON TAPE ON THIS THREAD. The hose end of the fitting has a 1/4" 37 degree male flare (JIC - Joint Industry Conference or some times known as AN for Army-Navy spec). Just make sure that the flare on the hose is a double flare. The pressure developed on the fitting can be as 1500 PSI when the steering is at the stops or during parking maneuvers. Check Rich Rhenberg's site on eBay as he had exactly what you need for $16 + shipping. See my other post about pitman arms and what is interchangeable. Also, DO NOT USE ATF IN THE STEERING GEAR. USE ONLY HYDRAULIC OIL like ISOVIS 32 OR 46 as it has the correct ingredients for vane pump operation. I'm sure others will have their own opinions.

Gerry, might need to run a tap to ensure good threads and depending on which end was cross threaded. More than likely, the end that connects to the hose. Just FYI, cheers!
