Well the gearbox on my 71 charger is spraying fluid when ever I turn the wheel. Before you ask it in not coming from the hoses or pump I can see it spraying from the under side on to the oil filter. I won't know how bad or if it can be salvaged till I am able to find or get new tools to pull it. Someone decided the needed my daily driver and all the tools I had in it more than I did :angryfire: . But I'm getting off topic here. Fall fling is this weekend and I should be able to find a reasonably priced rebuilt or gently used box there if I need to. Problem is I'm getting conflicting answers as to what will work. I thought a box out of a 72 and prior car will work. But I wanted to ask those who own these cars before I started looking. Who better to know than you guys. Any help would be great. If any of you are in Southern California stop by Woodley Park in Van Nuys should be a good show.

Sounds like the sector shaft seals are blown, if you get fluid coming out from around where the pitman arm is located.

Regarding using a box from another year, not 100 percent sure on this, but I believe you can switch across many years, for instance, I used a box from a 77 Le Baron on my 73 Roadrunner for a while back in the 90's, but had to use the original idler and pitman arms otherwise it would rub on the k-frame on one side. Hopefully someone that knows will chime on what you can use.

I don't know. The A bodies "went" from small to large sector splines, and this changes the pitman, center link, and idler situation. Don't remember, on the "Bees" how that all figures.

I suggest you try your local Advance, NAPA, AutoZone, O'Reilly, etc. I just converted mine from manual to power steering about a year ago. Lifetime warranties are nice if you own your car for 30+ years like I have :)
