Well, I am getting close to firing my 1967 coronet RT but hit another stumbling block. I am running a 440 and found a Federal power steering pump and brackets from a 1967 New Yorker with a 440. The problem I have is the return line. The federal pump has a very large return(about 1/2") and the steering box has the smaller return(about 3/8"). Are there any suggestions on how to overcome this? If not, can I keep the brackets and find another pump and what am I looking for? Thanks in advance.

I would get in touch with Steer and Gear out of Columbus, OH. They have never steered me wrong...sorry had to do it. They know pretty much everything there is to know about the steering systems of our cars.

You can always pull the return fitting off the donor cars PS gearbox and swap it out with yours. Or your can order a complete power steering pump from most parts stores, Federals might be harder to come by though. Keep in mind there are 2 styles with the round neck, the Federal and TRW, their diameters are different by about 1/8", and the notch on the back is different too. Because of this the mount bracket MAY be different.

Will all return fittings fit on the power steering gear or is there any other bolt patterns? And yes, it is getting hard to find the reman pump.

Or, if you know what you need for lines (length, ends) go to a shop that does hydraulic lines. They can make it. If you can't find one, call someone that works on bulldozers and other equipment, ask who they use.

I agree with beastlybirdie when I was self employed years ago I had hoses made all the time for a old backhoe. Call a case dealer or bobcat dealer they will know where a hose fab shop is.

Remove what you have and take it to your local NAPA retailer. Tell them the size fittings you need and they will make a new on for you...Hope this helps.
