promaxx

I've never used any of the defunct Patriot Performance {?},
now ProMaxx Cylinder Heads, allegedly the employees took it over,
after the org. ownership closed it down...

Don't quote me, I'm going on memory, it was 8-10 years ago too...

{was that the old Bull Dog ? or Proform Chinese heads ?}

Check out the -www- seems that there's a bunch of negative stuff about them,
but some good & some bad...
Cheap/er parts, generally you get what you pay for...
Not sure where they are cast, could be outsourced {?},
I don't remember the reason why now,
I know I passed on a set a long time ago after checking them out,
I'm not really sure or cant remember, about the parts quality either...

I know budget drives a ton of purchases, but do your due diligence...
I know building performance cost $$$, how much $$$ & how much spent wisely,
kind of dictates how much performance, bang for the buck....

If it's only a few hundred $'s less than buy a know quality
Edelbrocks {100% Made in the USA}
or INDY {just buy them from someone else ,other than Indy Cylinder Heads, IMO poor customer service}
or AFR have had some great write ups too,
{depends on what head, but latter 2, INDY & AFR can be a bit pricey & need special parts, but are good}
If your serious, want to know, just compare Promaxx int/exh cfm flow's
@ .400 .500 .600 .700 gross valve lift, ask where they're cast,
what/who's parts they use etc.

Then don't just take their word for it,
I'd talk to experienced head guys, especially experienced professional porters
& see what all had to be done to make them what they claimed could be...

IMO those three brands I mentioned above will all be good,
some more pricey than others...
Edelbrock is a good bang for the buck & $$$ spent,
it's middle of the road, you can run upto .600 lift with little to no mods,
they have decent flow rates "Out of the Box"
the RPM's 88cc open & 84cc closed/E-Streets 75cc have the same ports design,
they use different parts in the E-Streets & all 3 are bolt-on's for the most part,
you still/should need to measure for push rods lengths, piston/valve clearance etc.
Edelbrock "Out of the box", 2.14 int & 1.81 exh flow decent,
291cfm intake & 217cfm exh. @ .600 lift
but I'd still have a pro check them out if you don't know,
a bit of cleaning up/inspection, proper springs/installed height etc.
for you camshaft & they can get a ton better, long before full porting...

A Edelbrock Victor Max Wedge size Intake Port window
can get you more performance theoretically, if you need it, it won't hurt really,
But it's more $$$ usually too & you need an intake to match,
or ported intake that can be opened up to Max Wedge,
so as to take advantage of the more intake volume,
or offset rockers & other special parts etc., they are more $$$ too...
But for performance it's considered $$$ well spent...

Even 440source.com Stealth's etc.
{foreign castings, but US company & US assembly, with much better parts now}
IMO I'd just go with a better & well known supplier...

Google reviews, Yellow Bullet seems brutal on some Promaxx reviews,
but mostly SBC/Ford guys, not too many Mopar,
allegedly IIRC, they some customer service issues too,
also IIRC Speedtalk, Hotrod, did some write-ups too etc.

It's been a while since I checked them out, they may have changed...

I'll stick with who & what I know, money well spent...

Good luck, I hope that helped some...

I looked at the Promaxx, Sidewinders and the CPPAs....The Promaxx weren't a bad deal, I can't remember the name of the guy I spoke to but you can get upgraded valves ECT.
Talk to Todd @Mopar Connection, great guy, about the SWs...they are cast in China but supposedly in the newest forging plant there. Todd's Shop is a full service machine shop and can build as you want.
I spoke to another engine builder about them that specializes in mopars and he said he's installed 10 +/- sets without any issues. He said he was given several sets to test out when they first came out, he said The quality was very good. He said he cut them up to check the porisity of the casting and said it was some of the densest castings he had seen...
The only reason I didn't go with them was I came across a brand new set of eddys, complete with comp pro mag rollers for the same price...

Thanks for the input guys,I have been weighing my options between,eddies,side winders and now the promaxx.Can get an amazing deal on promaxx but I'm running a 67 440 and the e streets might be the better bet,thanx again.

Pretty sure the Sidewinders and the Promaxx are the exact same casting the difference being that if you buy the Sidewinders from Todd he will tailor them to your cam and application in terms of valve springs and hardware for not much more. He also offers various levels of porting.

People have been saying OOTB they flow better than the Edelbrocks they are copying.

A friend of Mine races nostalgia s/s in a 64 savoy, it has an FHO hemi runs mid 8s, he owns a speed and custom shop and sells a ton of eddie parts.He just built a 500 incher for his 69 gtx street car and put a set of c&c ported promaxx heads on it with a six pack.its not in the car yet but we will see what happens. He is counting on 600hp... dynos don't lie.lol

Read this. Although it speaks to small block mopar heads, it also speaks about overall quality. I haven't touched a Pro Maxx head, but I have have also noticed the declining quality of Eddy heads SB and BB lately; poor inaccurate valve jobs, poor quality castings, etc.

http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/2155684/1.html

The Sidewinder heads from Marsh seem like a great deal, as well. Todd is known to be a stand up guy and has a great reputation.

Someone has told me that the foundery that Edlebrock used in Cali was closed and moved to Mexico....can anyone verify? They still claim "Made in the USA"...
The only knock that I've ever heard on the eddys quality was with regard to the valves....one day you might buy them with good name brand parts, Ferrea/Manley and then I've heard , can't confirm the validity, of some cheap Chinese made hollow stem types...don't know...??? Would like to here others opinions...

AS far as I know the foundries both are still in SoCal, San Jacinto &
they use 100% Made in the USA, labor force {? it is SoCal...LOL},
Made in the USA suppliers, material & parts...

I haven't ever really had any issues, but I don't just bolt anything on
without checking stuff thoroughly, doing a different valve job,
adding or ordering the proper valves, springs, retainers, locks, seal etc.
for my specific camshaft or expectation/needs etc., as I would with anyone's parts...
Not just theirs...

Call them & talk to them, best recourse, get it from the horses moth directly...

http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/misc/company/contact.shtml

IMO it's just more typical internet rumor stuff, {not you Mike}
spread by or from people that use outsourced parts,
can't stand up to &/or maybe need to take Edelbrock down a peg...
Propaganda or competitors typical BS, not everything you hear & read on the -www- is true,
spreading rumors that are wrong/inaccurate...
Or someone with a beef maybe...

I'm sure some complaint are legit too, more aren't...

Albeit their carbs, I'm not a big fan of, at all...

I got the skinny on promaxx from a very reliable source,one of there distributors,as well as edelbrock. yes the promaxx are cast in the orient,but it is in the same foundry that now owns 49% of edelbrock now and does 80% of edelbrocks casting now!They have slowed there US foundary down to a crawl in the last few years and the cylinder head quality has not suffered.This came from a very honest man who has been an edelbrock distributor for 30 yrs and would have no reason to lie,it would be more to his deprament than benefit.
