Got something cool for you guys to check out today.

I bought this block apart of a deal a few months ago from a gentleman who has had this block in storage for years... He purchased it from a shop in Tampa, FL I believe back in the mid 80's. Other than that it is unknown on the exact history of it, but I'm assuming it is a 440 block due to the raised ID pad... The cool part is that RAMCHARGERS/5-24-74 is stamped on the ID pad. Casting number is 2586480-7. VIN location has 2 L9A 151637 stamped in it. Bore measures out at 4.340 like a stock 400 or what a .020 over 440 would be... Only information I could find with a quick google search is on stockmopar.com (Screenshot below) that shows all ???'s and to contact them if you have any information.

Anyone have any idea on the history of these blocks or what this block actually is? Thanks!

With the casting 8-2-68 date and VIN it was a production engine in a 69 model year car. That casting number should be 2536430. Looking at the casting numbers the 8 at a first glance looks like an 8 but I believe a closer look it was intended to be a 3. Ramchargers was stamped in there most likely by the shop that built it. Or it could of been personal property of the Ramchargers race team.

That helps a ton, thank you. Did some searching with that casting number and found a similar situation with someone else who found one of these "special stamped ID pads" as his had "LANDY/40 HP" stamped, possibly a reference to Dick Landy?

FYI …..

I met Dick Jones from the Ramchargers Team at the 50th Anniversary Of The Hemi
I thought he mentioned he lived in Michigan.
Maybe a fellow “Bbody “ team member could put you two in contact with each other
4 some exploratory historical meanderings…
Might Be COOL

Ramchargers was also once the name of a speed parts business. Dick Landy also had a speed parts/machine shop business. perhaps your block was sold to a customer after being stamped by the Ramchargers business?

Interesting expansion plugs.

Isn't this a partial VIN- L9A 151637 ?

So, the complete VIN can only be a few possibilities

XS29
WS23
WS27
RS23
RS27

Possibly BS29

Right?

I forgot C body VINs.
