I am still battling fuel boiling at idle with my Edelbrock AVS2. It was hot today here in Florida, but the engine temp never exceeded 195. By the time I got home, I noticed air fuel ratios at idle at 10 or so and running rough. Shut it off, then flooded. Classic fuel boil. I have 1/2” wood spacer too.

I use the Edelbrock fuel pump that’s preset for proper pressure. Can I add a regulator with return fitting at the carb and return some of the hot fuel to the tank with that pump or does it not produce enough pressure at 6psi to overcome the return bypass?

Sonny what are you running? engine? I live in s carolina and ran 440 6 and 440 with 750 dp with no problems. S Carolina is hot and humid my friends from florida say its hotter here. Is your gas line tight to the motor?sorry Im old school and dont know much about air fuel ratio.

It’s a ‘78 360.

did you have a factory pump on it before? Is this problem new? what intake? manual ,electric choke? Can you tell us is this a new carb, new pump or is this how you bought the car. any info would help.

Hey Sonny.
Been there!

Plenty folks have successfully added return lines with mechanical fuel pumps - in fact Chrysler did.

You don't need to use a regulator, just one of these fuel filters will do - the 1/4" barb has an inbuilt restrictor - (Wix 33040 for 5/16" lines or Wix 33041 for 3/8" lines). Install with 1/4" barb at 12 o'clock position (as bubbles float) and say goodbye to vapor lock!

All good ideas, but the best one is go back to 1960’s & get some Good petrol! Sorry, had to say it!

Just a thought on your return install a fuel cooler that way heat will reduce itself in the tank. Just a thought but not sure this is the true problem.

Thanks I’ll try one. Guess I need a new fuel sender with return too?

What is the best to run? I use super but is ethanol free better?

Not sure, but screw that ethanol!!!

Easiest solution if avail. I added a 1/4" barb to my sender as I could not find one for my '62...
What was your barb made of? Did you just drill a hole and solder it on?

Are your fuel lines insulated with heat shield wrap ? Anywhere to the pump, and up to the carb ?

Yes. Used spark wire plug exhaust sleeves.
