Trying to remove rear seat from a Superbird. Before I tug and push does anyone have the proper technique.

It might be similar to my Charger back seat. You can push the bottom of the seat towards the back and it will release from the floor, then can be removed. You have to access for the top of the seat thru the trunk. Near the bottom of the seat on each side there is a tounge-like flange that is bent over the the back of the seat frame. On mine it is attached to the wheel wells. Once this is straightened out, the top of the back seat will swing out and unhook. Hope this helps.

To the best of my knowledge they are all (60s & 70s anyway) the same. push down and back on the front of the seat. The front should then lift up and the whole bottom should come out of the car. Oh, remove the rear seat arm rests and window cranks 1st Otherwise they will be in the way when you try and lift the seat out...unless the front seat(s) is already out of the car.

One the 70 RR i have you follow this procedure.

Push straight down and then back. You are pushing on the bottom of the bottom seat frame not the top of the bottom seat frame. There is one latch on the left and right. If you work it a little to test you may hear it squeak as metal moves against metal and you should be able to isolate it and feel the resistance to isolate the "hooks" thats holding it in the car.

Once you have the bottom out, you will see how the bottom of the top half of the back seat is bolted to the car from the inside of the floor pan area of the car. Unbolt the bottom hold downs and it should slide up while you are lifting it up and off the hooks at the top of the rear package shelf area.

I removed mine tonight (I got stupid today and tried to move the trunk latch) I only had to remove the passenger armrest to get both pieces out. I wish I had left that trunk latch alone now as this has been a real pain. In the process of making a rod/socket combo so I can reach the bolts and get it open again.:angryfire:

I started this thread below last weekend:

http://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/threads/rear-seat-bottom-removal.134002/

So, guy I work with that is a big motorhead and has restored several 1960s Chevelles said "....come on....all you have to do is push down with your knee and back. The seat will simply pop out."

He came over last night after work. I watched him sweat for 15 minutes trying to get my Road Runner seat out. Finally, he said "......mopars must be different. There must be a bolt somewhere holding this seat in." Going to try a pry bar and see if I can look up under there to find the problem Friday night after work.

Someone remove the seat and use your legs. I'd do that first, 4 nuts bench or 8 nuts buckets. It's 10/15 minutes. JMO
