OK, so how do I do this? I got the ring off, and the door panel. Now I see this thing behind that looks like I should pry it off, but I'm not sure. I couldn't find anything in the factory manual. I don't want to screw something up.

Thanks.

Metal or wire clip at the door skin? Must be removed before it will come out.

Sheet metal nut between door shell and panel?
Holds remote joystick before panel and chrome nut?

Unthread...can cut finger tip...

Probably same as a '70....a flat metal spring nut with a tag for location on the thread of the body for the remote cables.
Be very careful releasing the 'tag' on that spring nut, as if it breaks, I'm not sure where you'd get a replacement. The spring nut locates the body against the door frame, and allows the external chrome nut to tighten the body up.

Hope that helps. :icon_thumleft:

S3000009.JPGThis hexagonal looking thing. It looks like something I should just pry off. But I'm not sure.

Mine was a rectangular press-on spring thing....looks like you need to carefully pry the tag out a bit then undo the hex nut.
