What is everyone using for replacement steering wheels to get away from the large diameter and damaged wheels?

Metalflake.

I bought a steering wheel kit from Classic Industries. It is a black leather wrapped 14" 3 -spoke wheel that resembles the one in Little Red Express trucks. This replaces the 17" oval one in my ' 64 Polara. It looks good, but I have not had a chance to install it yet. If you are interested, I can look up part number.

I would like to see photos of some of the steering wheels that people have used to see how they look.

I have been told by multiple vendors that the reproduction two spoke steering wheel used in the ‘66 Dodge Coronet and others, has fitment problems due to issues with the casting, and they are recommending avoiding the product until a fix is employed. I called PG Classic, the manufacturer-distributor a couple of months ago, and they said they were unaware of any issues. Odd.....

I wish there was a reasonably priced alternative to the factory wood wheel out there....
The ones from Grant and others are just plain ugly, least to me.

Well, just spoke to AMS Obsolete again. They own Herb’s Parts. While there is a bad batch out there, the ones they have in stock are good units

I bought a steering wheel kit from Classic Industries to replace the skinny 17" wheel in my 1964 Polara. It is a 14" black leather wrapped 3 spoke wheel that resembles the steering wheel in the Little Red Express truck. I have not installed it yet.

Thanks, Dave. I ordered a reproduction wheel from Herb’s. The folks at AMS Obsolete are going to test fit it before shipping it out. If there’s an issue, I’ll circle back to you

That wheel did not pass inspection with AMS.
I have since learned in another thread that the manufacturer, PG Classic, now says the wheel is only to be installed on ‘65 models - not 66’s. They were originally supposed to fit both years

Hey Dave. Happy New Year.

Did you install this steering wheel? If so do you have a picture of it to post?

I bought one from P. G. Classic about 6 months ago when they was having so much off sell on everything , it was for a 65 , 66 ,haven't tried it yet , what was the problem with them ? Thanks

I restored the original oval wheel in my '63 and after some 15 years, experimenting now with something different from the unique features Ma Mopar had back in the era; a rectangular wheel from a Chrysler. Got a deal on this one in very good condition and being the right color. Next is to check the fitment. If a go, will restore this one, if not, will likely put it up for sale. Have two horn rings, one being the full one shown and the other is a half-ring.
Weird? Probably; but always thought those rectangular wheels were cool for the brief period they were around.
