I’m in the process of getting my 69 Dodge Charger bucket seats reupholstered. I had an original headrest on one of the seats but the chrome is pitted and the vinyl stuffed so decided to order a new pair from our local Mopar parts dealer. According to the parts number they are made by PG Classic. They look identical to my original one but when I slide the chrome bars into the seat frame the locking pin doesn’t sit in the groove. I got out the tape measure and the groove on the old headrest is 10mm lower than the new ones.
Has anyone else experienced this? I’m thinking I might have to grind 10mm off the end of the chrome rods so it clips in. I didn’t really want to modify them because they were expensive and I don’t want to stuff it up.

I’ve marked in red where the groove is located on the original one compared to the new.

I do not see how that should affect anything. Get the seat together and see what it does and looks like.

The worst that will happen is they won't lock - but how often are headrests adjusted? Just my opinion.
