that's a great flick, she was pretty hot for the day too
it was Robert Micthum's kid too,
Susan Dosemantes, played the Angie Dickinson part :p
(wait I may be thinking of the Comancheros too, same lady)
The "Duke" is always seemingly a Texas Ranger or Sheriff :poke:

Love the ol' John Wayne movies/westerns
usually the same cast of characters
with a couple of newbies or ol' Hollyweirdo's thrown in

My 1st black lab was Named Duke, after "the Duke"

Not to go off the movie in focus (pun intended) one of my all time John Wayne favorites was Rio Bravo 1959 flick. What an all-star cast: Dean Martin, Ward Bond, Ricky Nelson, Angie Dickinson, Walter Brennan...few others I can't name offhand. Some funny stuff amidst the drama and couple of good tunes by Ricky and Dean. Also Wayne's last movie "The Shootist" I think it was, was an interesting finale to his long career wasn't it? James Stewart, Richard Boone, and Lauren Bacall - legendary actors in the twilight of their careers by then and appropriately, The Duke get's killed in the end with his boots on the way he wanted it taking out some bad guys as he planned. How many movies did he die in? I think it was only two or maybe three. Reckon some of the younger people on the forum don't know the actors I'm referring to...lol.

Rio Lobo and El Dorado were actually remakes of Rio Bravo.
All three were pretty good.

I was 7 years old when I watched Rio Lobo and I remember thinking someday I was going down by Mexico and find me a long dark haired beauty.
Never went down Mexico way to find her but I did end up with a long dark haired beauty never the less.

I know he dies in these 3.
"The Fighting See Bees", shot by a Jap, and rides the dozer with dynamite into a gasoline storage tank.
"The Cowboys", shot by Bruce Dern.
"The Shootist", shot in the back by the bartender.
But its been a long time since I've seen the "P-51's"(?), I keep thinking his fighter plane went down in that one. When I saw The Cowboys in the theater, a woman sitting a few isles over was really torn up when he got shot. She just screamed, then sat a sobbed till Dern got his.

John Wayne got to know Wyatt Earp when Wyatt was helping advise on movies and when John was just staring out in the movie industry. John took a lot of his movie character style from their conversations.
