Finally got back from work in th UK and drove from Texas to Kentucky in the truck I was trading my brother for the Super Bee.
Took the byways back to Texas, including using the ferry to cross the Mississippi. Even with a 240-ish cam, 3500 stall and 3.91 gears, it road trips well.
Made it all the way to New Braunfels until…”The Ride of Shame.” Developed a really ugly knock in the 383 (didn’t sound like a rod, but..?) and didn’t wanna stay running.
Got it into the garage and will start diagnosing tonight or tomorrow. Not sure what I’ve got, but no less than one dead hole. I’ll see what’s broke, what can be saved, and what improvements I can slide by the wife as “necessary.”
It’s a bummer, and wanted a driver rather than another project, but it is what it is. My brother will help make it right, and, honestly, a broken motor in my hot rod is pretty much a “first world problem.”
