hi guys...new guy here so bear with me.
i ordered a repro roadrunner beep beep horn. all of the electrical circuitry is working BUT......when i put the new horn on the car...( yes it had a good ground)... i got 4 beeps out of it...it got really sick sounding,,,then died ! this is the second time this has happened. any one got any ideas as to whats wrong before i go and drop another 83.00 on another new horn?????:sad8:

I will stab in the dark... The roller switch under the steering wheel on mine only puts out about 8-9v. IDK what it is suppose to be....but maybe yours is sending a full 12v and cooking it. That is just a guess. Like I said, I have NO IDEA what the voltage should be, can just tell you what mine is sending.

There is a strange headed bolt on the side of the horn that is an adjustment sometimes you have to (tune them in) by using this adjusting screw.

Cuda could be right. The screw might need tweaked just a little, one way or the other. It sets the clearance for vibrating plate inside to be able to vibrate back and forth.Horn relay is a good bet too.

You can buy new horn relays at almost any parts store. Rock Auto is another you can try. It sounds to me like a relay problem after 2 new horns. Good luck...hope you get it figured out.

hi guyz
yes i have a relay. a new one. the adjuster i know about and that didnt do the trick. i have a 12 volt volkswagon horn on there now from a jetta and it is working like a horn should. maybe there is a bad run or repro roadrunner horns and i got 2 so far ,,,,who knows. i have a new horn coming soon so ill throw it on and wish for the best. thanx for all your help guys...ill let you know how the new horn works..

for the record...the adjuster on the horn is kind of a regulator for amperage. a stock roadrunner horn should not exceed 4.5 amps. im not an electrician but thats what the plymouth manual says and thats where i had it set before the other 2 died
