Last Monday I went to a big cruise in my area, and saw a '69 Sport Satellite convertible I'd never saw before. Painted a later year color option and far from what anyone would call concours, but still a cool driver. 318 with a 4 speed.
Yesterday I went to another cruise, and its owner saw me and came over to talk. His car got wrecked Wednesday evening! He had been able to get a doorbell camera video of the tragedy that he showed us on his phone. Some dingbat blew a red light, nailed him in the rear quarter so hard the car spun around almost 360°. He's looking around for a shop in hopes he can get it fixed, but I'm suspecting its a goner. He said the fan was hitting the radiator afterwards, so it's tweaked pretty bad.
He had just bought the car the previous week!!!
The woman said she was driving into the sun which made it hard to see, but thought her light was green. Thankfully that doorbell camera showed otherwise. He got banged up a little and his side ended up bruised. He has got a lawyer so hopefully he gets compensated well for the car and his injuries.
I have been very active in participating in shows and cruises for almost 30 years, and haven't gotten any damage yet except for a clumsy clod parked next to me at a show gave me a small door ding about 20 years ago, and a couple years ago, I had 2 separate events where people almost backed into my car while parking at cruises. Knock wood but I definitely worry about my beloved cars every time I take them out of the garage!
Be careful out there.

Bummer! Probably fixable but costly. 5 bucks says the woman was on her friggin phone! We got rear-ended in ‘21 by a woman doing 55, no skid marks, didn’t even touch her brakes. I’m sure she was on her phone too . She whined to the patrolman: “It all happened so fast, there was no time to stop”. Right, like somehow the fully loaded dump truck in front of us could stop faster than she could. She got cited.

Wow bad deal. This is why I am afraid to drive my RR in traffic, but I suppose some idiot could still find me out in the back roads
and plow into me.

Sad to hear! Wrong place at the wrong time. I have almost gotten nailed a couple of times. Usually younger drivers, cutting through traffic, that don't realize our older cars do not stop as fast as newer ones with ABS systems. There are a couple of local cities that I will drive drive my old cars in, and avoid as much as I can with my newer one.

Sad deal pour dude, cool convertible
318 4 speed, sort of a different combo
wonder what the insurance says ?
hopefully both parties had insurance too
even if it was the ladies fault
