Hi. I've got a 67 gtx with a 67 440 (stamped 3-17-67) with power steering. I've got a trw pump on it now. The steering box started leaking so I figured I'd take it out to rebuild it and change to a Saginaw pump while I'm at it. I got one with brackets out of a motor home with a 440 (later 70s).

First issue is that the brackets don't line up with my drivers side outlet water pump housing. The radius of the adjuster slot is smaller on the bracket, or in other words, I need the 2 bracket holes that line up with the front of the water pump housing to be 1/4-3/8" further apart than they are.

2nd issue is that if the brackets were to work, the outlet line on the lower backside of the pump would hit the head, even though it's got a pretty tight 90 bent into the line. Is there some kind of banjo fitting with the strange flare and o-ring that will fit?

I see several sites list Saginaw brackets for a 68 and later 440. Is there a way to get this pump on this engine? Is there a kit that hangs it a little lower?

I have a Saginaw pump on my '65 with a bracket from Mancini on an aluminum water pump housing, fits fine. Only issue I had was that you have change the return line fitting on the steering box to a 3/8. I had the pressure line made at the local John Deere dealer, 90 degree elbows on each end.

Thanks for the info. do you know the distance between the two mounting holes on your waterpump housing?

That's good news, mine is too. Guess I'll get the brackets and see if the outlet interferes when it's hanging. Did you buy a reducer for the return line, or does someone make the smaller fitting port you can bolt to the box?

I had my box rebuilt by Steer & Gear, Columbus Oh. steerandgear.com I told them I wanted the smaller fitting. Might be able to get it from them. Might be able to modify the existing fitting with a 3/8 hose nipple.

I just made the same switch but with a 383, One thing more I will toss into the mix is pulley width, many of the newer Saginaw pumps use a narrow belt/ pulley compared to the older TRW & Federal pumps, ck your belt size or crank pulley to make sure your the same on each end.

I ended up swaping my crank pulley with one off a mid 70s 400.
Classic Industries. {March} company may have a pump pulley. We had a cordoba 400 in the back room so that's the way I went. I have a extra pulley grove now {AC} I don't need but it did the trick.

I'm using a Napa 25-7420 belt, works just fine. It rides slightly lower in the lower pulley, but it isn't bottoming out. It's been on there for 10 years.
