Took the interior out of my 73 charger behind the sail panels were hard cardboard pieces.. Any one know where to get them new or how to make them or know if they are really needed??

They are there to help reduce wind/ road noise. I don't know of anyone repopping. You may find usable material at Michaels or Joanne Fabrics, or use a sound deadening mat in its place.

Do you have pictures of what they look like? Just curious, as I was able to get this insulation for my 73 RR, but not sure if its the same for the Charger, and mine looks like this.

Icecat, I got mine from Dante's. Fit perfectly and matched the headliner as well. I'm not sure if yours are the same style as mine as I have an SE, they may be different BUT it was the cardboard with material over.

Here is what they look like (mine are white)

All of the 73 and 74 Roadrunners I have had used the injected plastic sail panels, not the cardboard and cloth ones. And I've seen plastic ones for Chargers as well (the centers for the Chargers use a slightly different shape).

Jus 73/74 SEs used the cardboard sail panel... rest ( Dodge and Plym ) used the molded plastic pieces.

About the insulation... they were cardboard and somekind "asphalt" attached to... I'd like to find it also to 73/74 Chargers. never have seen that insulation ever reproed

Thank you all for the information. Idrivemopar I will look and see how they differ but they look very similar. Hell if they are larger for the RR I will cut them down haha...

Idrivemopar.....could you share information on where you got those?

Bob

Hey Bob, I wish I could, but for some reason, I cannot find the receipt for these, and I didn't track it in my spreadsheet either. I will keep looking and see if I can find it.

I looked at Legendary, Herbs, Dante's, and a couple of others......no luck. Figure Idrivemopar's car is together now so getting even a outline drawing of that part is probably out of the question. Mine came out of my car in a couple of dozen chunks, each side. Hope you remember.......

No wonder I couldn't find it as it was an ebay purchase, but I looked and they guy is still selling it, here is a link for his current auction on ebay!!!! http://www.ebay.com/itm/1973-1974-Roadrunner-SAIL-PANEL-SOUND-DEADENER-INSULATION-73-74-/131410554808?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e98adefb8&vxp=mtr

Sorry Icecat, I think Bob and I kind of hijacked your thread, but I believe you too are looking for the sail panel insulation, not the actual sail panels themselves.

I went and pulled the tracing I made from the originals on my 74 Road Runner and those pieces on e-bay look like a really good match.

Yes, when I replaced mine, they were identical to the factory ones that literally fell apart when I took them out, but was able to verify at least for 73 they are a perfect fit. Not sure if this is what is also installed on Chargers however.

Idrivemopar.....you da man! And, yes, apologies to Icecat 66 for the hijack but we were looking for the same thing so, hopefully, its all good.. I have been looking for that part for over 2 years but I rarely go on EBay.....had a couple of bad experiences and wrote the site off. I did notice the vendor has an extended delivery period and that makes me a bit nervous.

I think you are safe with him, I had not issue with my order from him and he has a good rating, but that was well over a year ago.
