First off.. sorry if I posted this in the wrong spot, just didn't know where the right spot was.

Looking for a transmission builder in the San Diego area. The 6 shops I have called so far do not seem to be interested in rebuilding a transmission I bring in (what they have been calling a bench transmission - or something like that).

Because my 66 Belvedere is my daily driver I want to put in the 518/46Rh 2-wire ((free) from a running vehicle with a little over 100K miles on it), and having it rebuilt I figure would reduce the possibility of problems in the future plus I don't want to run the car with the higher RPMs if I can help it. I know the one with a lock up is better, but beggars cant be choosers IMO.

If anyone knows of a place in the San Diego Area, I would really appreciate it; I just got stationed here a few months ago and don't really know of any good shops here, different story if I was home in AZ, but I don't want to make the drive if I can help it.

I had my Max Wedge style 440's Trans (727) built by a very good friend on Bob Mazolinni's "Bob Mazolinni Racing"
Just google Bob Mazolinni Racing in Riverside CA

Check out Performance trans in Santee. Chuck rebuilt my trans and did an excellent job.

Is $850 to rebuild a 727 auto with better bands and performance parts a good price????

I don't think Walt Built in Oceanside is even there any more, that's where I took my 727 for a rebuild. The guy that built my trans there is named Clifford Whynaught and he's one of the track officials at Barona Dragstrip, you can find him there on the weekends when they have races there. I think he still builds transmissions out of his home shop.

Thats right.
Dad died years ago, shop went south, then partnered with another across the street.. now he is doing it out of his garage. He does do good work, he did 3 727's for me when they were on hillstreet.

Certified Transmission in Santee on Prospect. I talked to John there and he seems to know his stuff.
