Hello all, I've been putting off this project for quite awhile now. I must admit, I've been tinkering with Dodge stuff for many years and have always been able to get stuff done without the internet. However, this is time. I have a '73 AVCO motorhome with a 413 and some odd version of a A727 (maybe B) behind it. The tranny needs a fix. The code number is PK3410668L. In my search for info, I found this site. One of the members here has/had a trans for sale with the same code. It's listed as coming out of a '70 barracuda. Any ideas? I found a comment somewhere else that stated the internal components are much different in a MH trans.

I have 2 low milage big block rv transmissions but I'm located in florida. I'm sure if you ask around in your location. You will find someone with a few good transmissions on hand that you can aquire for a fair price.

Tony, thanks for the response. I do get to FL now and then. I may have to stop by. I wasn't really looking to replace the tranny, I was much more interested in what's going on inside. Rebuilding an auto trans has been on my bucket list since I blew out a two speed cast iron hydromatic (maybe turbohydro) back in 1970. I can still feel that thing shift. It was beautiful. Then it quit. Like I said, it's been quite awhile. From reading on the net, the Chrysler A727 is the best and easiest trans to try to get running again.

Damn I would love to have that Avco. My parents bought one back in the 70's Throw some pictures up...

So many times I've jumped through hoops to try to get someone interested in something I didn't need or really wanted to sell only to see that person take one look and walk away. I will put up pics, (If I can figure out how to do it), but they will not be pretty. The MH needs a lot of work including a wash and wax. OBTW, do you know of anyone on this site who can tell me what will cause the rear clutches on the A727 to pretty much melt down to the point where the adhesive has glued the wavy snap ring into the groove? Everything else in the trans looks pretty normal for a trans that pushed around a 14,000 lb MH for 135M, occasionally towing an enclosed car trailer.

I have a 727 from that same kind of MH in my charger. The 440 from the MH is now a stroked 493 is dads car. The MH trans is a heavy duty version of the 727. I believe (correct me if I’m wrong guys) that same version was in police package spec cars and possibly Hemi cars and 440-6 cars. My trans has a 4 pin planetary Instead of the regular 3. It’s rebuilt now and works very well behind my stout 440.

Some pics? OK let's see what happens here.

It’s still in pretty reasonable shape!! Would be cool to have that. Good luck fixing it up!

If you're serious, we could deal. I can't sell it as-is. I do intend to get it roadworthy.

In a few more years I’d be more serious. Have our 3rd child on the way so for the next couple years I highly doubt camping will be on the agenda. Keep posting your progress and we’ll keep in contact. :)

Thank you. I'm still hoping someone will be able to help me diagnose the burned up rear clutch deal. I suspect leaky piston, but the dodge truck manual has a lot of other offerings, including low pressure which would suggest weak pump.

My mom and dads was a 28 footer. I have some pictures of it in my old photo album I will have to take pictures of the pictures. The only reason I would want it is for the memories.. But then again having a hulking vehicle sitting in my yard would be crazy.

Those trees in the background don't provide much Shade...To be a Shade Tree Mechanic you'll need better trees.... I'll help ya out....

Welcome from Missouri!!

Welcome. My oldest bro lived in Albert Lea. FYI, some of those early rv trannies contained the 2.77 low gear set. You may have a rare piece there in case you get it out for rebuild.
