Seems like I remember someone shipping a rear using them. My questions are how did you weigh it and did you crate it or just make a pallet? Did the local Fastenal have a scale? They say no overhang from the pallet plus for insurance, they want it enclosed in a crate made of wood or metal. If it's not enclosed, no insurance. Lots of rules too. 100 dollar added fee for not being pallet jack accessible AND 150 extra bucks for clean up fee of any fluids AND the shipment will be returned to shipper at shipper's expense if not picked up within 30 days by the receiver after it's at the destination store. Can't see that happening when someone pays for the part up front. Anyways.....your experiences....?

I shipped an empty housing through UPS they wrapped it in bubble wrap and sent if from Indiana to NJ I believe for 80 bucks. I recently tried to use Fastenal to ship a trans and first they said they would get back to me with a quote and they never did so I called and then they told me I had to go online and fill out the request, so I did, and still nothing...

I did an estimate on a transmission and got a reply right away then when it was in a crate, I did another and it ended up being 30 lbs heavier. I forgot to include the shifter and a few other parts plus I underestimated the weight of the wood crate. The price went from 100 bucks to 150. Then the buyer told me he has access to a commercial UPS account and shipping was less. Uh, why didn't ya tell me that to start with man instead of letting me waste my time. Man, commercial UPS is much cheaper than what us poor folks have to pay....

**** UPS will want the deed to your house, try this site if Fastenal doesn’t work out

I looked at them for the transmission and they were way higher on quotes.

When I have shipped Fastenall, they never specified the size of the pallet, they just wanted it able to be moved by forklift. Make a wooden box and screw 4x4's under it. Measure it that way and send in for a quote before you make it. Calculate the weight of the wood and add it in. They have never weighed my boxes so it does not have to be exact.

The plan is not to build a box unless the buyer absolutely wants one and unless that happens, I'll strap it to a pallet and go for it.

Could put it on a Greyhound bus. Done that many times, super cheap too.
Their cargo holds are big enough for a rear end? Problem with using them, is the distance from me. I have two bus depots to choose from....one downtown Houston and one north of me. Ain't no way I'm going into Houston and well, the other one is nearly just as much of a hassle to get to but Fastenal is less than 10 minutes away. I'll check the prices on both and see if Greyhound would be worth messing with.

I shipped 2 fenders through Greyhound. Shouldn't be a problem with space. Maybe the weight. Just call them and ask. It was like 45$ to ship them.

I shipped a transmission thru Fastenal about a year ago. I think I may have been one of the first to post it here on FBBO. It is very hard to ship freight in this area. I used a small pallet, blocked the tranny upright and secure, and strapped it down. Fastenall was very co-operative . they completely wrapped it in shipping plastic wrap. I don't recall a lot of rules and conditions, but maybe things have changed by now. Cost was very reasonable, and the person shipped to, was very pleased with it all. He paid the freight........MO
