Tine to take out the old carpet and put in some new, well waiting for the new to show up but in the mean time get some of the prep work out of the way.

Surprisingly the floors only have surface rust in a few spots that scraped off well. Putting down the rust bullet to make sure it never spreads. The undercoating / sound deadening over that, then 1/8" sound/insulating padding I got from Home depot 100 sqft for $25. When the carpet shows up it has a 1/2" thick pad with it so hoping this will be a good combo.

Nice clean floor. Everything should lay out great.

Looks like you made good use of your long weekend. While you're at it, would you mind snapping a few photos of how that console goes together, including the wiring? I think my console is missing part of the wring harness. The courtesy lights work but I have no back-up lights. Also, is there supposed to be a light under the shifter plate to show what gear at night?

Thanks.

P.S. How about a link to your sound deadener where you bought it?

No problem, there is a lamp for the shifter plate. in this pic kind of hard to see you have two console lamps one each side and a shifter lamp. the wringing comes from a harness across the drivers side floor up to the min harness at the kick panel. there is no back up switch as mine is a 3 prong switch at the trans.

I will get more detailed pics for you if you want just let me know what view you want/need. Also the deadener is just something I am going to try to see if it works, it is stuff you use under laminate flooring but has properties of a heat deflector as well as sound absorption and moisture barrier. One side is foil coated and the other a foam padding.

Here is a pic of it as I was test fitting these seats, just cut and laid in still have to tack it down just waiting for the carpet to show up. then will get it all flat and in place. I like it because of the properties and the fact it is only 1/8" thick, the carpet I am getting has a 1/2" thick jute pad with it so just adding to the sound damping overall. Got the stuff from home depot, $45 for 100 sqft. I have seen others use the foiled stuff with the bubble wrap stuff in the middle. I tried that on my door panels along with some undercoating on the inside of the outer door skin and it worked good, close the door and it sounds solid and quite not loud and metal on metal sounding.

most new carpet looks baggy. this ought to cure that nicely.

I am thinking the gas petal needs to come off and go on top of the new carpet rather than go through a cut the carpet. Two nuts and it is off. I had an installer recommend letting the new carpet sit in the car for 24-48 hours to settle into the shape of the floor pan before doing any cutting and fitting. I will be doing this soon, so let us know how it goes. You can always cut more, but can't add any back on after you cut. :headbang:

Thanks, will do, was looking at that and the padding underneath looks like its coming apart anyway. Is that a factory part?

whoops re pic the thread, Also want to report that the stuff I used as sound deadner works great! even with all the windows down and cruising you can tell the difference in interior sound, and I didn't have to pay $500 for dynomat! $45 for 100 sq-ft of the stuff.:headbang:

GREAT work, start to finish a top notch job!!! Interior is sweet I love the white instrument panel!! :)

Thanks, not sure if anyone has caught this yet but I actually took out the factory white paint in the letters and numbers and hand painted them black, instead of using that nasty stick on thing. I know it's not perfect but it;s my first time ;O virgin cluster resto.

WOW!!!!!!!!!! That dash really stands out and I think it's going to look good when it's in the car.

Yep, it looks good. For the next photo, could you stand back a little and have a scantily clad model in the drivers seat.

Sweet, that cluster looks sharp in white. Could you post some pics of how the carpet tucks under the sill plate and the rear trim? My car was a basket case and I'm not sure if the carpet goes over the pinch weld seam or stop just inside of it. Nice work and kudos for not buying into the dynomat (ridiculous price).
