Picked up a master cylinder from the auto parts shop that has two outlets. Mine have only one and I was wondering if I can just plug the extra outlet before I do the swap?

1962 Dodge and it was the only option in their book. Any thoughts?

I would like to see the master cylinder that they sold you. Is it a dual reservoir MC? If it is you cant just plug one side and use the other. Is it a power or manual system? The correct MC from NAPA is NMC M40963 for manual or NMC M37257 for power brakes.

master cylinder

Here's the one they sold me.

Figured it out. M36218 is the same as 40936 except with out the rod. I'll just plug the bottom outlet and I'm good to stop.

One port is for a Pressuer Stop lite switch. So you should be good to go if you plug that port off. My self I Don't like those masters as if you get one line blown you loose ALL your brake's !

Factory is alright by me. I've got an emergency brake.

Yep, that should work, but like wedge said, you might want to think about doing a dual master cylinder conversion later on. Much safer and fairly easy to do with the line and distribution block kits you can buy now. Several threads on this site and others about doing the conversion.

-----Anything faster than a 10mph,,i wouldn't count on the emergency brake. Brings back memories, the old man was driving his 64,C-10 pickup down a hill doing maybe 25. He blew a brake hose, pulled the emergency brake handle and wound up off the road in the brush. Luckily he just missed a tree

Realistically you are just asking for trouble in the future with that single pot reservoir. In today's driving world the dual master is an acceptable swap even with manual drum brakes. Unless you are going for a concourse restoration then I would go with a dual and be done with it. Most here will agree too that the single pot booster is one of the first things swapped out for a dual one...cr8crshr/Tuck

When I converted my 66 Belvedere, there were no stinkin kits lol. Had a 69 Valiant laying around with a good master and so....with some adapter fittings, it got used.

Back in the 70's, had a couple of cars in the garage with brake hose failures, fortunately, only the cars were crunched. Personally had a brake hose go on me once, in a dual system. I would never drive a single system, myself. Just sayin.
