Six Pack Air Cleaner Design?

Can anyone tell me what the tubes in each of the four corners of the six pack air cleaner assembly are for? They're on the base of the assembly and appear to be drains for water or something. I have a new restoration going and the car is in a different state than I'm in or I would attach pics.

They must have a purpose but I can't figure out what for??
Can someone help by telling me what each of the tubes are for?

Drain tubes. Should be about 8" of hose so the water drains onto the exhaust manifolds.
