OXFORD, IN – A woman was found dead with a python wrapped around her neck in a northwest Indiana home that contained 140 snakes.
Indiana State Police responded to a home in the 600 block of North Dan Patch Drive in Oxford at 8:51 p.m. on Wednesday after receiving a call from dispatchers in Benton County.
Upon arrival, police found Laura Hurst, 36 of Battle Ground, Indiana, unresponsive with an eight-foot reticulated python wrapped around her neck.
Medics arrived and attempted life saving measures but were unsuccessful, police said.
Police say there were 140 snakes at the location, approximately 20 of which belonged to Hurst, who frequented the location approximately two times a week.
An autopsy will be performed on Friday to determine official cause of death.
The Indiana State Police were assisted at the scene by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office and Benton County EMS.
