...or,how I spent the 33rd anniversary of my time with GM. No,seriously,my seniority date is 4/18/77...
Started out this fine day(after the usual morning routine) by hitting a small swap about 20 miles from my place. Mostly GM stuff, but the second vendor I hit had these-at a buck an issue, they went home with me:
Eight issues of "Drag Racing" from '65 to '68,one issue of "Speed and Supercar" from '67 and a '65 issue of "Car and Driver". Also scored a Torker 440 intake(it's in the cleaner tank-you know what one looks like);didn't need it,but it was sitting all alone in a space full of Chevy parts:no: and it was cheap and I felt sorry for it and that's my story.
Now,for the "cave man" part of the day. I needed to remove the old rear axle, and since I'm an independent cuss who works best alone,I knew it would be a bit tricky. I had a floor jack, but I knew the balance would be an issue, especially when twisting and turning the housing(complete with axles and center section) to clear the springs and such. Looking around,I found this:
A dolly for moving snowmobiles around(this goes under the front ski);fit under the center section quite well:
After some twisting and turning-remember,the fustercluck factor was high with this heavy-*** thing:black_eye:-I successfully removed the offending unit. I took this as a good sign-sort of a "the car likes me and appreciates what I'm doing" moment. That dolly also helped moved the unit to another part of the garage.
So,the new, cleaned and painted housing resides on the springs, and when the paint dries on the spring plates and other things,I can install the other center section, axles and such.
So,even a Polack with single eyebrow and Cro-Magnon tendencies can wrench on a vehicle. ...And,not end up in the emergency room.
Maybe this will turn into a "Creative use of non-tools as tools" thread;who knows?
