So I have my car posted for sale here, and on e-bay. A potential e-bay buyer put in a bid at a ridiculously low amount. I declined and didn't bother to counter. Later in the day, he offered the full asking price. He reached out to me via email and said he would provide payment via paypal. I told him I would only accept wire transfer directly to my bank or cash in hand. He declined, so I decided not to pursue any further. I have a couple of others interested in the car. Each of these I spent considerable time on the phone with and provided many more detailed photos of the car. This e-bay buyer never asked for any additional info.

Earlier today he called me. He seems like a nice enough of a guy, and agreed to pay via wire transfer to my bank. I expressed to him my concerns that we was not legit given that he started with such a ridiculous offer, and has yet to even ask one question about the car or ask for any additional photos. He told me he could tell enough about the car from the info I posted.

This all still has my "Spidy senses" tingling. If he agrees to the wire transfer, what do I still need to be looking out for to make sure this isn't some sort of scam???

Do you have to give him your account number to make the transfer?

call your bank they can set up a temp account to keep you main account from reverse fraud.

Make him sign something that says he realizes this is a used car sold as is. Then-Take his money!

He can do nothing with your bank account number other than give you money. What’s this reverse fraud stuff? Please explain with factual evidence.

Every check you write for your entire life has your account number on it.

I dunno about the ‘States, but here in Canada the bank account info never enters into the transaction on an EMT.
They go to their bank site and initiate an EMT to your email address. You accept it, and deposit it. They never see your bank info, and vice versa.

Are you talking 10's of thousands. ?? ........ Wire transfers are safe as far as I know, have used them many times including from overseas, Kuwait one time.

e-z there killer no days all kind of fraud happens it a suggestion it is up to each person to look at all angles. this is why some of us dont respond to some post as some one wants to start a word fight.:mad::mad:

No fight here, sorry you thought that.

It’s true, call the bank, they can’t do anything with your account number.
They can’t take money back out of your account.

I just though you may have some facts or evidence about your “reverse fraud”

I do not know exact details but I did hear someone can put money in your account and then cancel the transaction and take it back again.
Someone here got caught they saw the money and then it was gone again.
Check with the bank.

the bank will tell to use the app for all your banking . but there has been 2 news story's of bank accounts drained of money all because you did not want to go to the bank . i DON'T TRUST ANY THING OR A Company TELLS YOU IT IS SAFE. and i haven't wrought a check in 10 to 15 years.

Certified bank check or draft. And no shipping or pickup till it clears.

Dont give any bank details at all. Or they can do a e transfer.

tell the dude to jump in his truck , rent a trailer and bring gobs of cash. no bullshit with a face to face transaction , or find someone who will.
