I like Spam. I really do. I like it! Here are the ways I like Spam:

1) Fried in a pan, just like you would bacon.
2) Spam cubed, fried, then thrown in with some scrambled eggs
3) Same as 2, but add diced pineapple to the pan.
4) Spam straight out of the can!
5) Spam, hash browns, pork & beans with cilantra, and a little bit of sriracha!
6) Spam with fried eggs, green chilies and guacamole
7) Fried Spam with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
8) Spam soft tacos, with lettuce, diced tomato, diced onion, picante sauce and pepper
9) Spam, sliced chicken fingers, and hot sauce
10) And lastly, Monty Python's SPAM routine!!!!!

I use to eat it allot when I was a kid, kind of had too,
it was more the norm maybe, from the older generation, like my parents were,
raised by WWII parents, but IMO not so much now...

IMO it has it's place "yes", just not really in mine anymore...LOL

I have a few buddies that love it thou, they love Vienna sausages, or Deviled Ham too...

I grew out of that faze of my youth...

too each their own, I won't judge...

Can't stand potted meat or those Vienna sausages! Had enough of that stuff (along with Ramen noodles!) deployed numerous times in the ME in the '80s and '90s. Tried that spotted dick in England, once. Not my cup o'tea.

Spam isn't a "kid food", it just has a good taste to it. Infinitely adaptable! Go to Hawaii, where the per capita consumption is the highest in the world! That is where I had Spam with pineapple. What a great taste together!

As mentioned in the fruitcake thread, a bud & I saw an ad for the International Spam Festival. It was only a couple hours away, the path took us past a casino, & we had vacation available. We went, saw the sights, smoked cigars, & drank a lot of whiskey. Never saw Spam cooked so many ways.

My parents were like Budnicks'... WWII kids, and they loved Spam. Fried and baked with a pineapple ring were the servings of choice. That and fried bologna sandwiches. My Dad could eat those everyday.

One other thing folks from Pittsburgh had to eat a lot of was "city chicken". Back in the day, there were slaughter houses in Pittsburgh that processed hogs, so pork was abundant but chicken wasn't, so it was expensive. So folks would cut pork loin into chunks, stick them onto wooden skewers, and cook them into what was essentially a fake drumstick. :) We ate a lot of city chicken even after chicken became abundant and cheaper because my folks were used to it.

Oh man, forgot about the fried bologna ! Dad would cook it up if mom wasn't home. The "aroma" seemed to stay awhile. There was a butcher shop in Cape Girardeau, Mo that sold a couple of delites. One was a summer sausage & the other was called a smoked bologna. Sadly, the grandkids didn't want to continue on the family business, & now it's gone. Good stuff, back then. Essicar's -R.I.P.

Can't stand the sight of those blue cans !!!! That's all my dad would cook for us . Had it far to often growing up !!

It's amazing how popular Spam is in Asia, especially in South Korea. Even in the U.S. it's considered a delicacy among many Asians. I asked the owner of an Asian food store near me about Spam and he said he has to keep a good supply in stock or risk running out.

I LOVE SPAM!

Picked up 4 cans the Thursday, 10 Dec at the Edwards AFB commissary
Now they have spicy, and all other flavors.

Grew up with it and to this day I still get a "Jones" for it. I mainly have a Spam Sandwich when it hits me. Having traveled all over the Pacific it is everywhere and is considered a staple of their diets. But does anyone actually know this about it????

It saved Russia and Brittan during WW II.
It is made using Shoulder Pork and Ham hence the name.
And finally this...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anwy2MPT5RE

My mother, who is 70 years old, made city chicken on a weekly basis for our family when we were growing up. I did not realize it was a 'Pittsburgh' thing only wondered why it was called city chicken when no chicken was used. Only veal and pork.

Add this to it also...Should the need arise, it is a good alternative when going into a survival mode "WTSHTF" if you get my meaning...cr8crshr/Tuck

I once did a home show for my business and across from me was a Spam food truck. It played stupid Spam songs all weekend arrrggghhhh! Anyway, the young couple who worked the truck told me they were recruited at their college, Minnesota as I recall, and had been doing this full time for about 5 years. They said they had zero overhead as they lived in hotels and made per diem on top of their salary. They got about two month a year off while the truck was shipped to Hawaii and back. They stayed with their parents during this time. They told me at the end of the following year they we're going to retire because they had been able to save about 90% of all the money they had made since taking the job! They were maybe 28 or so years old. They cooked Spam of all types and gave out samples. They said they had simply become immune to the odors AND comments as they had heard them ALL many times!
