Is the general concensus that you should take off the spacer ring that comes on the plugs when new before install, or leave it on? I've heard both ways! Thanks!

It's not a spacer ring, it's a gasket. Leave it on!

If you have heads with taypered plugs there isn't a gasket. The plug hole in the head has a taper to match the plug. You won't get a plug with a gasket/ring to go all the way in.

Heads that take the plug with the ring on it has a flat seat in the plug hole.

These are the 452 passenger car heads. Plugs with a ring or crush gasket. See the recess...

This head takes the taypered plug without a gasket/ring.

I would keep them on the spark plug. Those metal rings are the crush gaskets, so it creates a seal between the spark plug and head and if you don't use them you will end up with more thread stress.

Thank you guys, appreciate the feed! It's unanimous!
