I was watching the John Wayne movie "McQ" on TV last night. Although he drives a Pontiac Firebird (suspension limitations are exposed), most of the cop cars are Mopars. Can you say Polarafest?

About halfway through, a car he was tailing gets cut off by a Petty Blue 3rd gen Charger. I was not alert enough to get any details but I was surprised to see it.

That color seemed popular for a couple of years there. Corporate Blue, Basin Blue... Ford had a similar color Grabber Blue that a lot of the porky Mustangs (‘71-‘73), and Mavericks had. I think MG had a blue like that on their cars as well.

on newer Mustangs as well...2159F82A-EAF6-4E1B-B3F4-D775FC9FE660.jpeg

Yeah, maybe not true Petty Blue, but looked close.

Petty says they didn't have enough blue to paint a whole car so they added white.

He never said what color of blue they started with, though.

Had a 73 Barracuda, it was called Super Blue.
Same as Petty Blue? Or was it different?

I had a Gremlin once in Big Bad Blue. Pretty much the same colour. I was a lot smaller then.

I'm not a body or paint guy but can somebody post all the names of Petty Blue ever used by Mopar or AMC?
That would be cool.
Thanks

I wouldn't be surprised to see it show up as an optional color for new Dodge Challengers.

If so hope they don't change it and try to pass it off as the same.
They did that with B5 blue, the new Challengers and Chargers B5 is not the same as the original from 69.
Not sure, guessing the different clear coats reflect differently?

I agree and those pesky marketing people will do (almost) anything for a buck. I'm not sure what Dodge would name the new color as Petty has probably trademarked and copyrighted the Petty Blue name and color mix formula.

AMC - Big Bad Blue. A $34 option starting Jan 1969. They also had Big Bad Green and Big Bad Orange.

I’ve seen it referred to as “Corporate Blue” in Chrysler nomenclature.
