I guess while routing my new brake line across the firewall I broke the clip hold down for the speedo cable (or it was already broken and was just held in place by the cable).

Anyhow, what is a good fix for this? Can a new clip be placed on the cable, or is it now time for a Roadkill fix of zip ties?

Thanks. I appreciate your help!

I just replaced the cable. But the new one barely hangs on and is easy to dislodge from the speedo housing.

I discovered the same broken speedo tab issue; researched it and could not find just the plastic clip; so I bought another cable, but in the meantime, I put it back in place with the broken clip and it's been working fine ever since...

I was looking over the situation, and this might be my 'inaugural zip tie event' on this Road Runner (Roadkill here I come).

If I pull the speedo cable down low at the firewall grommet such that it is placing pressure into the speedo head, then place a LARGE zip tie around the cable at the firewall such that it won't pull back, it might just work. I have some zip ties used in underground mines that are industrial strength and sized (almost 1/2 inch wide, very thick, and double locking), so I will try this tomorrow night.

I've had the car since January and still have not found a zip tie, so it needs at least one.

I wonder if the speedo repair shops have any solutions? I'll make a call tomorrow and report back, too.

The zip tie idea isn't bad, but using a small metal style one like those used on transmission cooling lines and/or power steering lines is better. Even when clamped with the plastic ties, it can still 'slip off' and fall backward. Don't ask me how I discovered this though:BangHead:
