Took apart the instrument cluster to find out why the speedometer not working, car was doing 75 mph in the garage...
Something tells me that birdnest on the axle are not suposed to look like that? The needle fell of when I turned the cluster upside down. Is buying a new (used) cluster the best way to sort this out?
Check your shelfs for a spare one please :icon_winkle:

If it was me, I would have yours repaired and calibrated. It is not that expensive. You would probably have as much in shipping as the repair. Buying a used one would be fine also, but I have heard that the grease gets thick over the years and causes the gear to strip. So that one might not work correctly either.

Well that looks a bit off base...lol Below is a pic of how it should look, with a rebound spring in place. Those Clusters are really not that hard to find (over here anyways) or like hunt2elk mentioned, get it repaired. Myself, wish I could help, but unfortunately I have no repair shops I could recommend. Maybe Hunt2elk might.

Auto Instruments restored some gauges for me several years ago. If I remember correctly, the speedo portion wasn't that expensive. They also relettered the odometer #'s to make them like new.

If we knew what kinda car to look for a speedometer for...........
