Several of my motorhead friends (with Chevys) recommend SSBC for front disc conversions. I'm 90% convinced of going with Dr Diff, but like the idea of the easy installation of SSBC.

The web site claims "Kit will bolt on to stock drum brake spindles with 10" drums and does not require a front end alignment", but my Road Runner has 11 inch drums?

Any experience with SSBC?

SSBC Is what my car has on it. It came on the car when I bought it so I cannot comment on the install. BUT, I'm just now going in and deleting the stock distribution block because it's not allowing enough pressure to the front brakes, and adding a proportioning valve to the rear brakes. Maybe that's how they come in the kit, but my car definitely doesnt stop too well. I have a strong feeling it's because of the dist block. We'll see next week.

Here's a good forum post to check out and read through.

EDIT: Oh and their front brake lines have fittings that ONLY SSBC makes. They are actually old Jaguar fittings, but good luck finding them. And they dont make stainless steel lines, so I had to hunt down these fittings and then get custom built lines.

Put them on the front of a 68 Coronet I had. They worked great. I'll probably install them on my road runner, and get rid of the Wilwoods.

Any issues with the wilwoods? I was planning on running them on my car

I did both the front & rears with a SSBC set up on my 66-300. This allowed me to keep my spinners that I had/have on it. For whatever reason and even SSBC couldn't answer was that I needed 5/8" spacers so they wouldn't rub the rim, go fig? If anything, I would upgrade to better pads but I've been happy with it for the last 10+ years now.
I forgot, I had 11 X 3" in front and 11 X 2-1/2" in the rear.

I bought and installed their kit.Everything was there right down to the cotter pins.I did not get the fancy rotors and my 3900 lb car stops great from 145 MPH.Should go 150+ this season!

here is my correspondence with SSBC today:

Hello: I am interested in your B Body disc conversion kit:

1962 - 1972 MOPAR "B AND E BODY" FRONT LOWER ALUMINUM 4-PISTON DISC BRAKE CONVERSION KIT WITH COMP STREET CALIPERS - W156-7

The web page information states "Kit will bolt on to stock drum brake spindles with 10" drums and does not require a front end alignment". I believe my Road Runner has 11 inch drums. Do you have a kit for this vehicle.

Another question: I have original 14 inch Magnum 500 wheels. Do these wheels fit your disc converstion?

Thanks, and have a nice day, Bill

I DO NOT KNOW IF THE SPINDLES ARE THE SAME. YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE MEASURING THE INSIDE DIAMETER OF THE FRONT DRUMS AND NOT TH OUTSIDE DIAMETER.

Thank you for contacting SSBC with your braking needs.

Yikes, with that kind of customer service I'll pass on their products. Thanks for posting this.

I did not have a good experience with them either. When ordering my front drum to disc conversion, I could not find anywhere where it told me the amount of time it would take to get to me. If I missed it, that's on me. Once I had ordered it and called in about shipping time, it was 3 to 4 weeks! I canceled my order and went with a Wilwood set up. I have heard good things about SSBC from my Chevy friends and a lot of Mopar people. I just could not wait that long. Almost done with the Wilwood conversion now. Best of luck on your purchase.

My experiences talking to SSBC's customer service rep was "less than" stellar as well. Prior to sending them the money for the kit, they were willing to listen. After they got the money, they didn't have time for me.

I've had Wildwood on two different cars and had zero issues. Instructions are detailed and very high quality parts. I have a chassis buddy who does NMCA type cars and all he will use is Wilwood.
