It's driven fairly regularly, but the summer in Miami is the rainy season so I usually don't drive as much. These days it rains almost every single day.

The weekend looks like it won't be so bad, so I want to get out and put a few miles on the ol' Road Runner, maybe put the top down and get a burger.

Is it advisable to pull the coil and crank it for a few minutes before staring to get the oil flowing a bit or is it the same thing as just starting her up? It's only been about 5 weeks. Typically a cold start after a few days means cranking it for 15 seconds or so, pumping the gas then she starts right up.

Never had any problems with them sitting that long. I tore an engine apart once that had been sitting for over a year and the bearings were still wet with oil but I'm sure the pump has let it drain down. If it takes 15 seconds on a cold start, it should be pumped up by then.

Yup. I've had many instances of engines setting, more that a month, Just crank it up. The few seconds required to fill the carb, etc is all you need.

Sometimes I go for a month or so without running my cars. Especially in the winter around here when it's usually pouring down rain. Use really good oil, keep it fresh. Run it until it's good and hot. Never had a problem.:icon_thumright:

I don't know about the big blocks but on the small block motors with the original stamped steel type rockers. In the cups on top of those rockers they hold oil that was slinging around from the last time it ran and as soon as you start it up again that oil goes all over your top end and keeps it lubed so that part of the motor almost never has a real "dry start". Those with rocker arms instead of stamped cups do not have this advantage. Just a little bit of help why the 318 runs almost forever.
Much more than likely an unintended advantage. Ma Mopar was just trying to make something on the cheep.
Many of the worlds greatest inventions were unintended side bars while trying to do something else

Start ups

I am in Tampa and have the same Weather conditions too..The only issues I have is after sitting for 2 or 3 weeks I pump forever to get carb filled so it starts right up or If I am checking under the hood I spray some gas in..If I do not do this it seems to take awhile before she starts..If I drive back to back days it starts right up but, any gaps in between not so much...I have a 69 Roadrunner with a stock 383 with a 650 Correct Carter Carb. on it ...Rick 70RR

Not Much Use!!!

I`ve had my 440 6pac on the road for 3 years now & managed to get about 350 miles on it ,per year. Sometimes it sits inside for 2 months ,quiet! When it go to start it , i get 60 PSI right away when i start cranking. Then i leave it sit for about ten seconds & crank away til fuel fires up the beast & it runs about 85 cold & 70 hot !! I was advised to use Royal Purple Synthetic 20W50 High Performance Racing Oil, so nothing ever gets dried out from sitting, even up top. :headbang: Just my 2 cents.
