After installing the k member in our 70 Runner last night, we noticed the steering box is up against the inner fender. I checked our parts car and it appears to be about the same. Is this normal and if not, does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

If it is touching the inner fender, you could try loosening the 4 K-frame bolts and try to reangle it, shim the box, or check the box mounts and frame rails to see if they've been pushed.

I tell you, it is CRAZY tight up in there with a power steering box, but moparnation74 and garrett both make good points. I like the idea of seeing if you can just loosen the k-member bolts and wiggle the k-member a little bit. I don't think it would kill you to leave it alone either since the steering box won't be moving around, so if it clears I personally think you're fine.

You guys are right.... we just got it up in place last night and did not have time to mess around with it any. There was a fair bit of play in the k member bolt holes so we will loosen it off and pull to the passenger side

Loosened the k member boots and shoved it over as far as we could, although did not move much and when we tightened it back up, it went back to where it was. Ended up putting in a .010” shim under the LH side of the box. Brought it out just enough for it not to touch.

Good day of wrenching with my dad. I’ve learned a lot about the front ends on these cars
