A guy was out hiking and saw a trail off to the side and decided to follow it. Eventually he hit a dead end and it was getting dark so he double back, because it was getting dark. He stepped on a loose rock and tumbled down the side of a hill and came to rest on a ledge overlooking a cliff with a broken leg. He was out of cell phone reach and in such an isolated area that nobody saw him for a couple days.

He couldn't climb back up, and had eaten all the snacks and drank all the liquids he brought, and soon became weak and hungry. After about five days, he noticed a California Condor had landed close by, and with his last ounce of energy he picked up a rock and threw it at the bird, killing it. He dragged himself over to the dead Condor and began to cook it over a small fire he had made, in an effort to regain some much needed strength.

But before he could finish his meal, a nature group had been hiking in the area and they saw him on the cliff. They lowered themselves to him by rope to help save him and take him to the hospital to treat his wounds and recover.

He was grateful, but shocked when the week after his release from the hospital he was given a subpoena to appear in court under charges of killing a protected species, the Condor.

While in court, he pleaded with the judge to have mercy, explaining that he had not eaten in days and was dying himself, and that he did what he could only to survive. After hearing his case, the judge acquitted him and dismissed all charges. The man thanked the judge and headed out of the courtoom when the judge stopped him.

"Yes, your honor?", he said.
"I was just curious about something", the Judge said. "I was wondering what a California Condor must have tasted like to you. I can't imagine it was very tasteful?"
"Oh, it wasn't too bad", the man said. "They're kind of a cross between a Bald Eagle and a Spotted Owl."
