Tail Light Bezels

I am restoring my tail light bezels and was wondering if someone could tell me what material was originally used to keep the sockets in the bezels. Looks like some sort of glue or epoxy holding them in when I took them out. Thanks!

Im repairing my lenses and bezels right now too. Are you talking about the light sockets? Mine seem to be press fit.

Yes, the tail light sockets. I said bezel but it may be called the housing. Mine are (were) glued in. Maybe a past repair but I don't know how they were originally attached. Since it was on both sides, I'm thinking it was from the factory though.

Why are you removing the sockets from the housing? Bulbs are replaced by removing the tail light lense.

I used butyl tape to put one back together.

I had a couple of sockets that were rusted out and needed to be replaced. Since the paint on the housings was in bad shape and I already removed the bumper, I am going to blast and paint the bumper brackets as well.

Here are pictures of my bezels, The sockets are crimped on- I can spin them with some effort so no glue.

they are installed by pressure. Replacements available will need to be installed with glue. Will require some trimming on housing

Thanks for the pics. Now I know someone glued in some sockets. I am going to replace them all while I have everything apart. Found some at O'reilly's that will work.

when I said installed by pressure wanted to mean they are machined installed with a press, making a sandwich with housing. Not really serviceable easilly.

posted here some PNs which I THINK are the best suit for our tail lights, which even still will need some trimming on housing and glue, the retainer springs would make an easier fit and the smaller diameter socket will make an smaller trimming job.

some are the smaller diameter pieces... some others are HUGE

will need to solder the ground wire to socket if your harness is matched to plastic housings instead potmetal ( dunno how Plymouths are really )

the ones with the ground tab provision doesn't get the weatherproof boots, and they are the large diameter kind

I used the Dorman universal and soldered on a ground. Used epoxy putty to hold them in place and sealed with rtv silicone. Got them connected and everything works great. Just got to get everything put back together and put the bumper on. Thanks for all the help!

I know they are a bit expensive but Ron Francis has some that are billet so you never have to worry about rust again, course you just need to open he hole to 3/4 which isn't that big of deal. I am going with these when I get to mine, have weather proof ones as well, summit racing sells them

I actually heated the hole with a heat gun and put the socket back in. The original has 2 flanges.
