All the more reason to keep our old jalopy's running and on the road.
"open data access" is a bad idea,
but the LEO's love being able to
shut your car down during a pursuit.
Bad actors can access that
data and potentially wreak havoc
with the control of your car.

I just had a quick read of that....are you sure this is not just a method of preventing malicious hacking by dickheads trying to cause chaos?

And not really designed or aimed at the home handyman wanting to work on their own vehicles?

It's both. But the bottom line is that we won't have access to the information.

Agreed Kiwigtx.
I think it was back in 2018 or so, a bill
was introduced in congress that would
make it illegal for an individual to
repair their own vehicle citing
copyright infringement pertaining
to a vehicles computer.
I believe it was NHRA that lobbied
to kill it.
