The Big Blow: 1926 Miami Hurricane

Interesting story. I can imagine that storm and then the depression may have helped slow the population growth. My great aunt told me the story of how she survived the 1935 Labor Day storm in the Keys. I can see how those people in 1926 thought the storm was suddenly over. When I was a kid in 1965, Hurricane Betsy hit us in Miami. Our next door neighbor was a fireman and was working that night and couldn’t get in touch with his wife, who was home by herself. I went outside with my dad during the passing of the eye to check on the neighbor. It was a surreal sight, with no lights in town and the stars were out so bright and clear.
