The Buy American thread

Last week I read a Forbes article that cited FTC and others sources estimating that the Peoples (Putative) Republic of China is the source of 80 to 86 percent of the world's counterfeit and knock-off goods. Many are not just shoddy con jobs, they're downright dangerous. And Amazon readily admits they have a significant problem with vendors selling phony designer goods.

Ya wanna buy Chinese? Go check out Taiwan goods!

I just spend the better part of a Sunday afternoon compiling all the Made in USA websites and search engines I could find. Then I tried to post them on places I don't really frequent (FB and Reddit) and was unable to do it. Too confusing for me! I know folks get skittish about opening documents/attachments, but in case you are inclined to send this info along or know how to post it somewhere, here's the attachment of my findings:

No To China is a fabulous site that delineates how to shop for non-PRC goods and tells just why it's so important to do so. The creator of the site has Chinese parents, and he is steadfastly against supporting this evil regime. His site gives you the wherewithal to shop not in China. Give it a look.

Amazon shopper? Try this:

Here is a pdf of a retailer's report card from the notochina website (copy/paste url):

Most retailers actively try to block you from learning where a product is made. They can be regarded as in the CCP's pocket or (at best) apathetic about it. One update to this list: Wayfair has gone from an A grade to F due to removing "country of origin" from all of its items.

Recently, the US Congress had a chance to act on our behalf in a bill that required online merchants to list country of origin for products. Predictably, they dropped the ball, and the final form of the bill watered down the language, added pork and offered loopholes a merchant can drive a (presumably PRC-made) truck through. Keep on fighting!

How to Avoid Buying from China on Amazon - No to China 2022
Amazon deliberately hides country of origin from most of its products. So how do you avoid made in China products? Find out here.

Administrators: I realize this thread and post have political undertones. I hope you let it stand in the spirit that it is non-partisan and seeks only not to give aid to a regime that indisputably tolerates/practices forced labor, has concentration camps, oppresses its own people, is intimidating neighboring countries, floods the world with counterfeit goods, recklessly conducts virology research and doesn't give a damn about the environment, fair trade or worker health.
