Just got a message from Dawn Wells that Russell Johnson, The Professor from Gilligans Island, just passed away late this morning.

His abilities to keep a battery-powered radio running without batteries for years will be missed.

RIP Russell, I loved Gilligans Island as a kid

Ohh Mary Ann, Ohh Ginger!!!! Whoops, got off track. I sure did like that show, he will be missed!

Gilligan's been dead for nearly nine years now. Time marches on. RIP Professor.

As a kid I really wanted to be marooned somewhere, anywhere with Mary-Ann

Dawn's one of the nicest and most personable people I know. Poor gal is in a bad state. Johnson and his wife Connie were amongst her best friends so Mary-Ann is in a bad way today.

Johnson went straight from high school into USAAC air cadet training. He became a bombardier and flew 40+ missions during WWII. He ended up getting shot down on a mission over the Pacific and messed up his legs. Quite a guy.

I liked that show too.....may he rest in peace.

Anyone remember Dobie Gillis and Bob played the beatnik as Maynard?

I remember it vaguely, seen a few late night reruns too, he was a far-out groovy happenin' beatnik type dude... goateed teen & wasn't he messing with bongo drums allot ??, drove a 28-30 Ford Jalopy what would be a Rat Rod today...

I remember Bob Denver playing Maynard G Krebs on Dobie Gillis fairly well. Maynard was a kind of harmless beatnik type who was scared to death of any kind of work. Boy, do I feel old that I can remember that. Black & white ancient history.
Too bad about the professor. RIP Mr. Johnson

LOL! I was pretty young when that show was on but remember it well. It's kinda funny that some of today's kids are that way but they're not beatniks....or maybe they are?

NO!!! Please say it ain't so. Now I feel old.

Sonny says, wasn't the professor Nailing Maryann?
and the skipper doing Ginger???:eusa_think:

Russell was also in two classic sci-fi movies: It Came from Outer Space and This Island Earth (though he was killed off early in this one).

Dave Madden aka Reuben Kincaid on the Partridge Family also died today.

R.I.P. I have Russel's autobiography, he tells some good tails of Gilligan's Island and other jobs. He and Dawn did a lot of charity work together.

NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! his passing forces dealing with mortality.... he was/is always "The Professor"...

How sad as all the tv shoe icons are slowly passing on. RIP professor.
