I never thought I'd own a 73 Road Runner let alone 2 of them. Always thought some day I'd get the 69 4 speed Road Runner of my dreams but now I have the 73's and gotten to where I like the looks of them. I've seen some nice restorations done for the 73's on this forum. The story goes, I'd go out to this mopar collection every month to get parts for my Duster and Barracuda. Every month the owner would try to sell me this desert rotted 318 automatic Road Runner (rust free). Every month the price would drop. Finally the price went down to $1300 so without giving the RR a final good look over I said fine I gave him a deposit. I came back the next month with the trailer to haul it home. That's when I really got a good look at the RR and realized a lot more parts were missing or were in worse shape than what I originally thought. The engine is dead, the driver's door was permanently locked. The seats are just frames, no seat springs. No key. No front or rear glass. Then I went looking for a donor Satellite and came across the second 73 RR. It was originally 400 4 speed car. The car was complete but no motor or transmission. This one had a key, original radio, original interior in okay shape. I'm thinking no problem I have a 440 4 speed to put in it so I'll go with the 400 RR to build. But as my luck with RR's goes this one has one major issue, rust. The 400 RR just became the donor car for the 318 RR. The more I looked at the 400 RR I just couldn't tear it a part for parts. There was only 749 400 4 speeds made. I found a Satellite, so if that deal comes thru I'll build both of them. If not I'll build the 318 RR first and keep the 400 RR for a later build searching 10-6-14 001.jpg

Congrats. Love the story. Welcome. Don't forget Mopars at the Strip Las Vegas Motor Speedway March 27-29, 2015. Good place to explore and dream. See you there.

Great plan :headbang: and welcome.

748 of them now.

My uncle wrapped one around a telephone pole in the 70s. It was yellow with white interior 400 4 speed.

He lived but his hip was broken.

My aunt has a pic of it before it was wrapped around the pole.

Good. Where are the pics? I love these cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The plan is to have the 318 RR running to drag down the strip. If time permits the new used 318 that is going in first to drive it around to work the bugs out will be replaced with a 360. Looks like the donor Satellite deal is going to come through. If so, I'll have all the sheet metal necessary to repair the rust issues of the 400 RR.

The 318 73 RR

Awesome story. Great cars. I am a huge roadrunner fan. Great find. At $1300 you didn't do bad at all. I have had several 73 roadrunners and satellites over the years. I have pics of my 74 satellite on here. Keep up the good work on those beautiful birds. Keep the pictures coming.
