I'm swapping my tired old 741 case for a shiny new 489 sure grip.

Axles are out. Drive shaft is out. All nuts are off except 2 that were just backed off. Got it to drip but can't break the pumpkin loose. I assume silicone sealer is glueing it on. Tried whacking with a hammer, floor jack, scraping the paint along the flange where it meets the housing, and penetrating oil but it still just won't budge.

Going to try FBBO next.

I used a floor jack and a piece of 2x4 and jacked up on the front of the housing just behind the yoke it only takes a little bit to pop. works for me

Thanks, Badmopar67. I tried the jack again on the yoke and got it loose. I'll put the new case in tomorrow.

Thanks, Tallhair. I was ready for the oil with a drain pan.

When I changed mine while the pot was empty I tapped and put a plug in the bottom of the housing to drain the oil for next time.

That is exactly what I do. Ford 8 and 9" are especially tough because they use a copper crush washer under the third member nuts and that washer is swedged around the studs.

I like to keep a couple of the nuts on when I drain em just for a bit of safety. You don't want that thing falling out since they weigh a good 80 lbs. I've seen people do that
