Thought of the day... Chrysler being "saved" by Fiat, is like being adrift in a lifeboat in the North Atlantic, and being rescued by the Titanic! "Yeay, were saved!!! Oh ****!!!"

Yeah, Fiat made crap 30 years ago. They must have done something right since then to keep afloat and be able to buy into Chrysler. I remember when Hondas first came to the US with a 600cc motorcycle engine powered car, and people laughed. Look at them now. The first Hyundais were junk, and look at them now. Remember when Cadillac made land yachts with living room furniture for seats and suspensions built for cushy tushies and not driving? Look at them now. Toyotas were gold, and now they are considered almost second rate. Today's Fiat isn't the Fiat that we remember. Give'em a chance.

Hey, I work for them brother. Nobody wants them to succeed more than I. But they seem to only hire mouth breathing, knuckle draggers, with room-temperature IQ's for entry-level management! They are afraid to hire anyone smarter than themselves, to protect their asses. This results in a generational "dumbing-down" of each round of new hires for management! A few more years and we will be a the moorlock and eloi level! [kudos to anyone that gets that reference!]

I'm not sure that you're being rescued by the Titanic....

I remember the days when they built crap too...at least what we saw in North America.....but they have come a long way..

Now, besides Chrysler, they own Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Maserati and Ferrari....food for thought.

I've read that the new upper management started letting the engineers do their jobs instead of getting in their way which resulted in the updated trucks and Chrysler 200. I never did like the Caliber (big and heavy for a small car and gas mileage stunk) but having looked at the new FIAT 500 am interested to see what it's replacement is going to be.

Very well said, if they weren't able to do well in the automotive industry, they wouldn't own so many successful brands/makes now, I too was really weary when the Italians/Fiat bought the big majority share of U.S. Owned Chrysler stocks... "BUT" They seam to be doing well now.... Better than the old management "golden parachute, sweat heart deal, over paid guys" who were running Chrysler into the ground before & still taking their exurbanite salaries...

But we STILL hire the incompetent! They just brought over this Asian woman, [no slam on asian females, they can be smart, but not this one!] to work as a tooling engineer. She is so incompetent, that all they let her do is hold shims! She is a "shimeneer"! She is useless, so they bumped her to second shift. The root is that nobody with any knowledge of tooling, or measurement would ever have hired this idiot! This person was hired by management, not by anyone with a tooling, or engineering background!

So in other words you're saying same stuff, different day? I'm no expert but that could be for a very good reason. From what I've read and been able to gather, they seem like a "hands off", if it 'aint broke don't fix it, operator. Ferrari and Alfa Romeo for example, were left untouched and entirely on their own. Fiat does not seem to muscle in and take over....

From what's happening in your situation, maybe in needs to be communicated that your business model needs a little TLC and elbow grease? Easier said than done though....

BTW your signature is great!

Sounds like a case for the inmates to take over the asylum and buy the place out. I'm sure Obama would lend the money. Only semi joking here. Really, Managing is pretty simple and I would bet that there are people in place that could do it. It's time to take the reigns and steer the ship. This country needs leaders, why not you?

Actually, that was my joke last week! I figured we could buy the company for about $10 each for 26,000 workers! Thing is, we would have to run it like a business, instead of a social welfare program! I live a fair distance away from my work, in a rural area. So with the new attendance program, I am now a "problem employee"! Doesn't matter if I am blocked by an accident, or a combine convoy, I am late! So, since I am now in trouble for being late, the union recommends I get an FMLA exemption! Great! Now I can get an attendance bonus too since they cant hold it against me! All I ever wanted to do is be a good electrician, do a good job, and work for someone that doesn't want to fire me every day.

Scotts74birds what is a FMLA exemption ?, I think your extremely lucky they are tolerant of you being late at all, I'm not saying you shouldn't be exempt every once in a while for very good reasons but, I was a real ball buster of a Boss at my company, if any of my former union, carpenters, electricians, laborers, equipment operators or non union dealership facility management/office staff employees in my old construction company that service automotive dealerships, My terms were, employees that punched in late more than 2 times in a 30 day period {with out a damn good story/excuse at least} they were instantly terminated no, ifs, ans or butts... When they were hired, that was made a major point of their employment with my company, you must be on time, I told them "if you care about the job & have to leave earlier to get to work on time or whatever it takes, be there on time period, or you will be fired after the 3rd late clock in, in a 30 day period, no exemptions"... It was amazing how good all 14 full time employees were, {the part time people were still bad} most of the full time employees even the ones that lived a fair distances away would actually show up early, show some pride in their jobs, clean up their trucks, desks or tools whatever & drink coffee or something before even clocking in, it made for a much better group of loyal employees, that actually cared about their jobs & the success of the company.... If you've been around construction or dealership workers much, you know how flaky the workers can be, "especially on Mondays after paydays", I was fed up with the employees showing up late constantly & it stopped them from showing up late all the time, or they would just have to get a job some were else, there were/are plenty of people that were willing to work for great wages & to be at work on time on a regular basis especially for the high union wages & benefits I was paying...
