Hello Everyone,
Thank you for letting me be apart of your forum. I look forward to helping those that I can and reaching out when I need a hand.
I currently own two 1972 Chargers. My project car is a 1972 Charger Rallye, GY8 with black interior. The other charger is a parts car and I have already posted some parts that I am selling off of that car.
This is my first project car, but my third Mopar. My first car was a 1972 Chrysler New Yorker. That car was great. A 440 that was just a boat and I took it sailing often. It made it to the Nats from Wisconsin and a few other road trips during it's stay with me. I sold that car due to space constraints when I bought my first home.
The second car I owned was a 1972 Plymouth Satellite Sebring. It was also a driver car. It was a 318, auto, FE5 red. I drove this one as much as possible as well. I did some work to the car in the time it spent with me. I was converting it to a Sebring Plus and equipping it the way I would have ordered it if it was 1972. I changed out the standard dash and put in the Rallye cluster. I refinished a set of Magnum 500's as well as some other items. I was almost ready to start the conversion to a 400 I had stored. However, the Charger Rallye became available.
After I won it through eBay, I went to Kansas City to bring it back to Milwaukee. At first, I was going to part the car out for the bulge hood, the rally doors, the console shift interior, but a 10 hour car ride is a long time to think when towing the car back on the dolly.
Why would I convert a 318 Satellite to a big block car, when I could build the Rallye car (400-2 car) and have a much nicer and more valuable car when it is done.
So, I got it home and was trying to figure out how to frame the conversation with my wife. Well, the first time she sees the car, she says "Why don't you keep the car and build it yourself?" I said that was a good idea. The next weekend, I took the Satellite to the first huge car show, swap of the year and the Satellite sold.
With that, I was all into the Charger and couldn't be happier. Granted, I sorely miss having a car to drive and walking up to a car show just doesn't have the same appeal as driving in and parking amongst the other cars.
This build will be slow and as my son gets older, I look forward to his participation in the build.
A few pictures attached. One of the fender tag, one when I picked the car up a year ago and one from this afternoon.
