Are the four bolts all I need to remove this top cross support? Pulling the motor and trying to maximize my clearance.

Thanks and Happy New Year my brothers!

The benefit of a small block is ease of removing it. It's just not that hard.
You really don't want to remove the top of the core support

Happy new year! What's happened to the 340?

Take it out from the bottom. That way, you can leave 100% of all accessories on the engine. Simply hang the brake calipers (no need to remove/ bleed), disconnect upper control arm, disconnect all wires and exhaust and then drop K member and trans cross member. It's controlled and works much better IMHO.

Pretty sure he didn't paint that jacket, though.

You guys kill me lol. I am going to be very close clearance wise. 7 ft to the top of the garage door. Really don’t want to pull it out for several reasons one of which the driveway has an incline.

Not sure I have the clearance to raise the body. Not sure where to attach the hoist to the frame. I know Birdsong was selling a chain and lift kit but I don’t see where that hooks in.
Rough numbers:
Here is where I am at.
Engine height 24”
81” door height
35” of lift needed to clear the bay
So 35+24 =59” lift needed

81-59=22

22” is what I have for the chins and ballancer hooks and top bar of hoist

Doable but need every inch of clearance I can get.

Comments suggestions general harassment

Have a vibration, static compression is like 210psi (12:1 TRW pistons) so have to detune to run our shitty AZ 91 fuel and I haven’t a clue as to the cam.

So it’s time…

Low ceiling is a killer.

For starters.....
Deflate front tires.
Remove hood.

Do you have one of these?

Make the chains as short as possible and remove those "L" brackets.
I used bolts through the chain lint into the front and back of the heads.
It's worth the trade-off.

FWIW I lifted my duster by using two axle straps around the top of the core support with a short chain between them

Thanks yes I put 14” work tires and will deflate as a last resort. I have the balancer need some chains though..

The body was only on the chain long enough for me to roll the engine out and roll it back in. Other than that the car was on stands and I lifted the engine/kframe/trans up to the body.

leave the transmission in the car.
Unbolt everything, put the car back on the ground.
Remove the hood, remove carburetor and use the shortest chain you can to the ends of the heads.
Put a jack under the trans to hold it up, remove the engine out the top. May be a hassle with headers, you put them in so you have experience with them, figure that out as you go.

Should be lenty of room.

I am intrigued by lifting the car method. Everyone that seems to have done it really says that’s the way to go so much easier. But I’m wondering how High does that front end need to clear the motor? I did a simple calculation of lifting the engine up and over. Is there any kind of rough estimate I can do to determine how high the front end needs to go up?
