Hi, I'm new to this site and am in need of some advice/help. I have a 73 Charger and did a engine swap. It had a stock 318. Found and put on a bubble hood. Then put in a 3:55 sure grip posi (new everything) New rebuilt motor (383 Magnum) tranny (727) and the list is endless (my first Mopar). My problem is this, I have no passing gear. I went from a column shifter to stock floor shifter, console and linkage, and no passing gear. Changed the carb to a Holley 750 and the linkage etc. no passing gear. Took it to a trans shop they adjusted the linkage and put in a new torque converter AND still no passing gear. At the shop they told me a need a "new" passing gear rod for a big block. Any ideas or help in finding one would be greatly appreciated. I have owned this car about 10 years and want to get it rolling. The kids and wife are gone and it's time to play! I live in Everett, Wa. Thanks again, Dave

it sounds like you need a kick down linkage. check out this link for a Lokar kick down, unless you can find a Linkage for a bigblock in your local wecking yard. These Lokar units seem to work good for non original applications. Good Luck.

KICKDOWN CABLE

Kickdown Cable is for engine/transmission swaps when production kickdown linkage will not work or is not available.

Thank you, I will go to the site and order one now, the suns out a rarity around here!

did you keep the kickdown rod from the 318 and use it with your 383? if so.. the kickdown rods for SB's and BB's are totally different.

On that note though, it would probably be easier to just buy the kickdown cable from bouchillon performance or a lokar from summit.

Re/Tranny help

You are right I did use the kickdown from the 383, or should I say the guy who did the engine swap. I am finding out he was not quite as knowledgeable as he thinks. At any rate my local trans shop seems to think I should use a stock one BUT try to find one in decent shape, not bent and the right one when you know NOTHING like myself!!!! I keep hearing Lokar. In your opionion is this a good choice. And, do I need the brackets and..... Also, the throttle cable was used from the 2 barrel carb from the 318 to the 4 barrel 383 too I think and mickey moused to work. Any suggestions for that too? Thanks, Dave

The Lokar cables are a good choice IF you don't mine a quasi "street rod" kinda part instead of the original mechanical linkage. I've installed them and have one on my Duster. Easy to install and to adjust.

very true, the lokar is good, i have used them on 2 different mopars.

i have heard that the bouchillon performance kickdown cable does offer better geometry for 4bbl applications, though I have not had the experience to prove that or not.

Re/ Tranny help

Tks. I am just going to go w/it (Lokar) What suggestions do you have for throttle linkage and brackets? I just might as well get everything I need. This car like I mentionioned has been sitting and now is springing up leaks as well. Power steering pump, brake cylinders etc. It has a BB hemi radiator which I put in after the engine swap and now it needs to be flushed or whatever. I have luke warm heat as well so thermostat stuck? 4 years ago I also put in a sure grip posi and just found the paper work it suggested after 100 miles to lube the differential. I am off to that shop in the am. as It just went over 100 miles. This Charger has only got 94,00 original miles I am now wondering if maybe I should have just left it alone. Too late to go back now. Thanks for the help, Pics Soon!!!!

if its a true hemi radiator you may consider selling it and use proceeds to buy a new more common one.I,m not sure of this but if its a hemi only part number its probably valuable.

re/tranny

Ya it is. it came out of a hemi cuda which belonged to a friend of mine when I first got this car around ten years ago. He just gave it to me when he was redoing his car. why I don't know? I figure I will just keep it for now. He had told me it was valuable at the time but I never paid much attention or even gave it any thought until you mentioned it. Dave

I like this site. These cables look better to me, thanks. I will do a little more checking before I make a decision on which one to go with. This time I am going to TRY to be a bit more patient and do it once. Dave
